La Marca del Este, published by Holocubiertain Spain is trying just that. From its origins, the gorgeous art and the evocative and dangerous setting has mixed very well with a mechanics system that, although simplistic by today’s standards, really shines with players who want a more raw and unadulterated RPG experience.

This game allows you to play as a criminal, not crime-fighter. I will admit that it didn’t fill me with enthusiasm when I first heard of it, but I was very, very intrigued. And is a game that comes from Spain, so that intrigued me even more. Not because it is rare to see a game being produced in Spain, quite the opposite, but because I have only got my hands on two professionally produced games from Spain in the last few years and this is the only one that’s not a fantasy setting. In this episode, Jenn, Vickey, Dale and myself discuss what have games done for us and our lives, and also what do we think games can contribute to someone’s life. A very meaty subject that made the podcast be a bit longer than we would like, but hopefully you’ll find it insightful.
It was also my pleasure to have Scott F. Gray back in the show. As always, it was a pleasure talking to him, and it was indeed a pleasure to read his book, We Can Be Heroes. We talk about the book and its contents at length, though there are no spoilers, so don’t you worry.
Fangs from the Past is a basic Pathfinder adventure written by the master adventure writer Tito Leati. It features simplified statblocks for monsters and is fully playable with the simplified ruleset. It includes battlemaps for running the fights, handouts, some pawns and plenty of GM’s tips. It also includes a “Pro” appendix to allow veteran GMs to fully enjoy the adventure, using Pathfinder Complete Ruleset.
