Magic the Gathering is a card game that continues to excite its fans with new releases of decks and packs. Their up and coming release has been named, Theros, which is to be released in the autumn of 2013. Theros will be the 62nd expansion set from Magic the Gathering and will be one of the largest expansion packs to have come from the card game.
The new collection features an ancient Greek theme with a top down design element and uses mythological tropes. This particular set takes place on the plane of Theros. Gold cards are included along with the monocoloured. Theros will play off the building blocks from previous sets including M14 and Return to Ravnica. Achievement, adventure and accomplishment will carry the mood and tone of Theros.
The creatures included in the Theros set will take on a Greek flavour apart from Minotaurs. Three Planeswalkers will feature in the set, these include Elspeth, Ashiok and Xenegos. Theros is ruled by a pantheon of gods. Heliod, Erebos, Nylea, Thassa and Purphoros are the gods who live within Nyx which is the night sky. The gods can take on different forms and appear alongside mortals.
Within the plane, Krakens, Minotaurs and monsters will threaten the safety of walled cities, the walled cities of Meletis, Akris and Setessa are a contrast to Theros which is a particularly dangerous plane.
The set will be launched on September 27th 2013. Theros will be closely followed by other sets which include Born of the Gods and Journey into NYX. You can pre-order the Theros set at Magic Madhouse.
