Writing LGBT characters in TTRPG is something a lot of straight people want to do but don’t really know how to do it. In this episode, I talked to Steve Kenson, from Green Ronin Publishing about how to go about it in the safest possible way.
Whenever this topic comes up in Social networks, there are arguments with people – some people – complaining about it. But there are others who want to find out how to do it properly so their work can include more diversity and gain some richness.
Steve Kenson has a long history of writing for roleplaying games and is the author of Icons, Mutants & Masterminds and Blue Rose among others. During that time he has been a champion of diversity and equality within roleplaying games and produced some of the most inclusive material in RPG history.
But writing gay characters comes with some pitfalls for straight people, since writing gay characters can easily fall in tired and harmful stereotypes that have been going on for much too long.
In this episode, we talk about what steps can one take to go about including LGBTQI characters in their roleplaying games, adventures or as characters in their gaming sessions.
