Unboxing Level 99 Games Minigame Library

Level 99 is one of those companies we don’t hear enough about. They consistently produce both boardgames, card games and role playing games with a truly excellent level of quality and originality.

BattleCon is one of the best fighting cards games out there, and Mystic Empyrean is a truly fantastic and gorgeous looking role playing game.

This new selection of games is not just one game, but a collection of mini-games. All easy to play and teach, which sounds very good.

But it’s the money you have to pay worth for what you get? Let’s take a look!

Legendary Blades

This pdf is 42 pages long, 1 page front cover/editorial/ToC, 4 pages SRD and 1 page of thanks for the feedback. That leaves 36 pages of content for $3.00! That is an awesome bang-for-buck-ratio. Now let’s take a look at whether the content suffers from the low price.

Blades, Dungeon Dwellers & Dragons

Another in Misfit Studios’ line of microsupplements, we get 5 magic blades. The introduction informs us that each Blade’s powers should be hidden, and gives guidelines on researching them…complete with a table to roll on (there is a unique one for each blade), detailing just how much information the researcher finds. A Critical Failure means that they get it ALL wrong. This is a great concept, but stumbles just a bit in execution: If they players roll it, they will know they got a Critical Failure, and will suspect something. If the GM rolls it, they essentially lose the right to use a benny to modify the roll, which some could construe as unfair. Other than that, I love it…and I have been told by the author that a benny solution is coming soon.
