The G*M*S Magazine Podcast Episode 62 – Are RPGs art and Cubicle 7 Interview

Roleplaying and board games reviews, podcasts, videos and interviews

41793_17304049388_5384_nEpisode 62. This is the one on the day before going to Spiel 2012!

You might have seen my video in which I wonder if Role Playing Games are art and give a few examples. Well, Rob and Jenn join me in this podcast to chat about it and discuss whether our hobby can be considered a work of art.

I personally think it can be, but it needs a lot of help and promotion in order to get recognised. It also needs for the authors to start considering themselves artists. Also it needs a lot of definition that won’t be easy to achieve. What part is the art bit? The layout? The writing? The mechanics?…

Lots of things that we haven’t thought about yet but need to be laid out to establish a foundation of what is art within RPGS.

There is also an interview with Dom McDowal Thomas, CEO of Cubicle 7. By now you should know that is a company to keep an eye on. With successful and powerful licenses like The One Ring, Dr Who and Primeval, C7 has the perfect ground to become a proper powerhouse of RPG publishing.

And proof that they do very well is the plethora of awards they’re obtaining, from Origins and UK Games Expo awards, to the famed Ennies, of which they collected a few this year
