This installment of the Dungeon Dressing-series is 14 pages long, 1 page front cover, 1 page advertisement, 2 pages of editorial, 1 page ToC/foreword, 1 page SRD and 1 page back cover, leaving us with 7 pages of content, so let’s take a look, shall we?

Unlike most installments the Dungeon Dressing-series, we kick this pdf off with half a page of expertly written IC-narration before we get some advice on general legend-crafting.

Unlike most Dungeon Dressings, we essentially get full-blown legends, which, while generic in detail, are evocative in their content – take one of the 10 lost treasure-related legends: Take Lady Du Pon’s enchanted Bread Basket that turned those illegitimately partaking in its offerings into hideous vermin and abominations – now that one, I haven’t seen before! The others are of similar high quality, by the way!

The 10 legends on famed adventurers are no less awesome – take for instance the Bone Man, cursed by an old woman he mistook for a hag and slew, his flesh is transparent, leaving his bones for all to see… The 10 legends on Dungeon Features, coming with legends on aviaries, puzzle floors or floors of bones are no less awesome. Or what about those dungeon denizens – the ogre brothers who are supposed to have been cursed by a long-vanquished warlock to guard a bridge, the mysteriously respawning kobold clan – there’s adventure potential galore in these legends.

The final table of 10 legends cover the final stand of a legendary adventuring party, a tale of woe of a dead lass and the now cursed lash that was instrument to her demise or a now petrified troll champion of gladiatorial matches long finished…

Conclusion:

Editing and formatting are top-notch, I didn’t notice any glitches. Layout adheres to a two-column b/w-standard and the original pieces of b/w-artwork are glorious. The pdf comes in two versions, one optimized for screen-use and one for the printer. The pdf comes fully bookmarked for your convenience.

I’m honestly impressed by Pierre van Rooden’s superb writing in this collection of highly evocative legends, each of which would make not only for a great backdrop, but also for a whole adventure in and of itself, resulting in a highly useful, great supplement that ranks among my favourites in the whole line! My final verdict hence shouldn’t surprise you – a heartfelt recommendation and 5 stars + endzeitgeist seal of approval – be sure to check these legends out!

Endzeitgeist out.
