Roleplaying and board games reviews, podcasts, videos and interviews

Capharnaum, an RPG based on medieval Middle East

Capharnaum is the newest push for Mindjammer Press. The publisher’s creative mind and all-round genius Sarah Newton new discovery.

Capharnaum has taken the helm after a terribly successful Kickstarter to launch a battery of books for the Mindjammer RPG. For the last almost two years, Sarah has been busy dishing out book after book for Mindjammer and creating the one I think is coolest Sci-Fi universe out there.

Capharnaum, however, takes us into a different world altogether.

Based on a fantasy world around Arab culture in a medieval world that doesn’t really resemble your standard fantasy setting.

Laced with the blood of dragons, heroes have the power and abilities of leaving their marc on the world. However, they also remain vulnerable and need to be the heroes they are supposed to be in order to advance towards a glorious goal.

Mechanisms sound just as good. With a fairly simple dice pool, a single roll can and will determine the level of success and the scope of the consequences. All of this allowing player to choose the level of risk they want to take in order to succeed.

If we add that Capharnaum has gorgeous art work and the promise of a bestiary and a campaign to keep us going for a very long time, this is a game worth backing and keeping an eye on!
