The G*M*S Magazine Podcast Episode 63–Spiel report and Chronicles of Skin

I couldn’t help myself! Should have waited for Dr Reddy to be around, but I had to give you my report on Spiel 2012.

The show was quite amazing this year. Children were on holidays so, unlike other years, they were able to attend the show before Saturday. This made the first two days a lot busier than they’d normally be. Usually they are a lot quieter and Saturday goes mental with number of people.

When a company does games well, jumping into a parallel side of the business with a different type of game is a risky strategy. Even though a well known license will attract people to the product, the reputation of both the product and the license puts a lot of pressure on the company to come up with a great game.

But is it Art?

A little while ago, Robert Sullivan, aka The Grumpy Celt, posed the question Are Games Art?

This is indeed a very tricky question to answer, as the concept of art is very subjective and some people consider things to be art forms only when they understand and respect that form of expression.

So, since the answer to the question Could Games Be Art? is a resounding yes, answering the question are they art is a different kettle of fish.

Interview with Nine Worlds’ creator at the UK Games Expo

Richard Denning is the organiser the UK and also the designer of Nine Worlds, a game based on the discovery of gods in the Norse Mythology.

The idea of the game is to find a replacement for Loki, since he’s been imprisoned for being very naughty! Thus the gods need to find another one and they are competing against each other to score points, obtain divinity and find the new god.

Yep. It does sound fun to me!
